Cory Weeds lansează albumul ‘Hip to Be Square Plays Huey Lewis & The News’, reinterpretând hiturile celebre ale trupei într-un stil jazz. Albumul include atât melodii originale, cât și adaptări ale pieselor cunoscute, oferind o experiență muzicală vibrantă.
Cory Weeds, saxophonist, and Chris Hazelton, organist, have created an album that reinterprets the music of Huey Lewis & The News in a jazz organ quartet format. The idea for this project originated during a road trip in 2013, where the duo listened to the band’s greatest hits. After a decade of development, they recorded the album in November 2025, featuring a mix of original compositions and adaptations of Lewis’ songs.
The album consists of two parts, with the first part including well-known hits like ‘The Power of Love’ and ‘I Want a New Drug’. The second part introduces original themes inspired by the jazz style, showcasing the quartet’s versatility and creativity. Weeds’ tenor saxophone leads the ensemble, supported by Hazelton’s nimble Hammond B3, Rourke’s guitar, and Petschauer’s drumming, creating a vibrant and engaging sound.
Overall, ‘Hip to Be Square Plays Huey Lewis & The News’ offers a fresh take on classic rock tunes, demonstrating how they can seamlessly fit into a jazz context. The album is a testament to the quartet’s skill in transforming familiar melodies into something new and exciting.
